Folic acid

Folic acid (a collective term for various compounds also known as folates) is involved as a coenzyme in protein metabolism and in the structure of body cells. A deficiency of this vitamin can lead to damage to the skin and mucous membranes, pathological changes in the blood count, fertility problems as well as reduced hatching rates and lower laying performance in poultry. Cereals contain little folic acid, alfalfa meal higher amounts. The utilisation of natural folic acid in monogastric animals and poultry is medium to low and fluctuates. Therefore, the supply of this vitamin to the animals is ensured by targeted supplementation of the feed as required.
