Palm kernel expeller
Palm kernel expeller is a by-product of extracting oil from the seeds of the oil palms(Elaideae) by pressing. Before the oil is extracted, the stone shell of the palm seeds is first removed. After pressing off the oil, the palm kernel expeller remains with approx. 16-18 % crude protein, approx. 15-16 % crude fibre, approx. six to 10 % crude fat and a high proportion of cellulose, pentosans and other structural carbohydrates. Due to this composition, palm kernel expeller is used in animal feed, especially in compound feed for ruminants(cows, cattle) as an energy-rich straight feed. Due to the digestion in the forestomach, ruminants can make very good energetic use of the structural carbohydrates that cannot be digested enzymatically in the small intestine.
