Rapeseed cake
Rapeseed cake is a by-product of the extraction of rapeseed oil from rapeseed by pressing. The rape varieties cultivated today(Brassica napus ssp. ) are breeds with very low erucic acid and glucosinolate contents ("00 varieties"). These substances are also called "antinutritive substances" because they can negatively influence digestion. Today's rape products can be used in feeding without hesitation. Rapeseed cake contains between 32 and 35 % crude protein, approx. ten % crude fibre and approx. four % crude fat as significant ingredients and is characterised by an increased content of the essential amino acid methionine in the protein compared to other protein-rich meal. The higher crude fat content compared to extraction meal is due to the technical form of oil extraction. In animal nutrition, rapeseed cake is used as a protein-rich component primarily in mixed feedsfor ruminants(cows, cattle) but also fattening pigs and fattening poultry.
