Usable crude protein at the duodenum (nXP)

"nXP" is the technical term for "usable crude protein at the duodenum (small intestine)" and indicates the amount of crude protein that the feed can deliver to dairy cows in the small intestine. This amount depends on the total protein content, the UDP proportion in the protein (proportion of protein not broken down in the rumen - rumen-stable protein or "flow-through protein") of the feed and the energy content ofthe feed. Via the amount of energy provided, the protein supplied by the feed, which is degraded in the rumen by the microorganisms, is converted into highly digestible "microbial protein" and is available to the dairy cow as a high-quality protein source in the small intestine.
