03.12.2019 – More than 300 visitors came to this year's Milk Producers' Day in Aurich-Middels (East Frisia). The farmers took the opportunity to exchange ideas with professional colleagues as well as to receive further training on important topics related to dairy farming. Many technical students and master craftsman candidates were also among the participants.

The expert presentations provided plenty to talk about and sparked lively discussions. Dr Martin tho Seeth from the Udder Health Service of the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture illustrated the problem of mastitis in first lactation in his presentation. At the same time he showed measures for the prevention and treatment of mastitis.

True to the motto "I can't manage what I don't measure", Thomas Bonsels, Landesbetrieb Landwirtschaft Hessen, informed the audience about methods that can be used to improve feed and feeding management as well as feed intake in a simple way.

In a practical report, Bernd Hatke, dairy farmer from Bösel in the district of Cloppenburg, finally gave an insight into the everyday life and management of a model dairy farm. In the 'Bernd and Josef Hatke GbR' he manages a family farm in the fourth generation with 146 dairy cows and offspring as well as 996 fattening pigs. With average life-day yields of 19.3 kg and 11,230 kg milk, the farm is one of the best in the region. Bernd Hatke explained the management of his farm and what he attaches great importance to in breeding. The Hatke family has been a loyal customer of the deuka brand for years.

The exhibition stands of the organisers and sponsors usefully complemented the information offered at the event and gave visitors and exhibitors the opportunity to get into conversation.

The organisers Deutsche Tiernahrung Cremer, the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture and dlv Deutscher Landwirtschaftsverlag were very satisfied with the way the conference went.
