28.06.2025 – On 28 June, Deutsche Tiernahrung Cremer's compound feed plant in Könnern celebrated its 50th anniversary. As part of the anniversary event, Germany's largest private compound feed manufacturer invited neighbours, interested parties and families to the factory premises. With guided tours, delicious food and a colourful family programme, guests were able to experience the plant up close. Afterwards, the workforce continued to celebrate in private with former colleagues and their families.
"Our plant has developed continuously over the last 50 years - technically, organisationally and in terms of people. We are proud of what we have built in Könnern and are looking forward to celebrating this special milestone together with the people of the town and region," says Thomas Schulze, Plant Manager Könnern.
Exciting insights, a colourful family programme and exchange at eye level
The anniversary celebration offered visitors an informative and eventful morning. The focus was on guided tours of the production facilities, a presentation of the feed produced on site and an exhibition of the company's own silo lorries. Younger guests were also catered for: bouncy castle, face painting and street colouring made children's eyes light up. In addition, the colleagues provided information about current job vacancies and training opportunities at a specially set up stand. Food and drink were well catered for with barbecued meat and cool drinks.
A site through the ages
The Könnern plant went into operation on 2 May 1975 as a modern concentrated feed mixing plant with an innovative concept. Originally designed for the production of poultry and pig feed, the site grew rapidly: just a few months after the start of production, capacity was no longer sufficient, so a four-shift system was introduced. In the following years, additional raw material and feed silos were built, each of which could hold up to 50 lorry loads. At the end of the 1980s, the plant reached an annual production of over 100,000 tonnes for the first time.
After the political change in 1990, deuka Deutsche Kraftfutterwerke, one of the predecessor companies of Deutsche Tiernahrung Cremer, bought the production site. Since then, the new site has been gradually modernised and expanded. New presses for the production of pellet feed were installed, dosing and control optimised and the production programme expanded to include cattle feed.
The Könnern plant today - a strong partner in the region
Today, the Könnern plant is one of the most important production sites of Deutsche Tiernahrung Cremer. The technical facilities are continuously modernised and adapted to the requirements of a dynamic market. Currently, 25 dedicated employees and three trainees produce over 20 tonnes of animal feed per hour with the help of three high-performance pressing systems. As a reliable supplier and employer, the plant in the heart of the Salzland district has strong links with the town of Könnern and the entire region.
