Lucerne meal

Lucerne(Medicago sativa L.) is one of the oldest known forage plants and is widely grown in temperate climates. Lucerne can be cut and dried at different stages of vegetation. Since alfalfa meal is preferably used in compound feed for horses and rabbits and these "appendix duration" require a quality rich in crude fibre and rather low in protein, the alfalfa is cut at the end of flowering. Special qualities of cut lucerne are preferably sun-dried. Alfalfa meal contains approx. 27-33 % crude fibre and approx. 14-16 % crude protein.
