Sweet lupins

The lupine belongs to the Genisteae group (broom family). The wild forms contain alkaloids that can cause symptoms of disease. The blue(Lupinus angustifolius), yellow(Lupinus luteus) and white(Lupinus albus) sweet lupins used in feeding are alkaloid-free new varieties. Sweet lupins contain between 30 (blue variety) and 38 % (yellow variety) crude protein and between 12 (white variety) and 15 % (yellow variety) crude fibre. They are used in animal nutrition as a protein-rich component in mixed feed for ruminants(cows, cattle).
