Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is a component of the coenzyme pyridoxal-5-phosphate and is involved in the amino acid and carbohydrate metabolism in the body. A vitamin B6 deficiency can lead to growth retardation, changes in the blood count, skin inflammation and poor breeding and hatching results in poultry. Vegetable feedstuffs such as cereals and by-products of cereal processing (e.g. wheat bran), oil meals (e.g. soybean meal, sunflower meal) and brewer's yeast contain a lot of vitamin B6. However, the vitamin B6 from these sources can only be partially utilised by the animal. The supply of the animals is therefore ensured by supplementing the feed in accordance with their needs.
