Potato protein

Potato protein is a by-product of extracting starch from potatoes. The potato tubers are crushed and the potato starch is obtained by washing. Most of the potato protein remains in the washing water. These high-quality proteins are extracted and dried using special technical processes. Potatoes contain so-called bitter substances (solanine), which impede protein digestion in the metabolism. The solanine is removed in further process steps and the highly digestible de-bittered potato protein with approx. 75 % crude protein is obtained. This product is mainly used in mixed feeds(prestarters) for young mammals (e.g. piglets).
