Cassava
Cassava is a product made from the starchy root tubers of the cassava bush. The so-called cassava chips, also called tapioca chips, are produced by pressing and drying washed and peeled cassava tubers. The cassava or tapioca flours are then obtained by grinding. Depending on the country of origin and processing stage, they have a starch contentof between 55 and 65 % and a very low crude protein content(about two %). This makes them a pure energy source. In animal feed, cassava is mainly used as an energy-rich feed material in compound feed for pigs and poultry. However, its importance has declined considerably in recent years, as mainly domestic cereals, above all wheat and triticale, are used as energy sources in feed for pigs and poultry.
