Maize germ

Maize germ is a by-product of starch extractionfrom maize grains. Maize is degerminated in wet milling after a swelling process. After the husk is removed from the endosperm, mechanical cleaning takes place. In the process, the maize gluten (glutinous protein) is separated and the pure maize starch is obtained. The product may still contain parts of the husks and the endosperm and may be additionally dried in a further treatment step.
