Corn gluten feed

Corn gluten feed is a by-product of starch extractionfrom maize grains. Maize is degerminated in wet milling after a swelling process. After removal of the husk from the endosperm, mechanical cleaning takes place. In the process, the maize gluten (glutinous protein) is separated and the pure maize starch is obtained. The dissolved maize germ is de-oiled (maize germ oil) and the by-product maize germ extraction meal remains. Corn gluten, dried corn steep liquor, the separated husks and corn germ extraction meal then result in the product corn gluten feed. It is characterised by a medium to high crude protein content(between approx. 20 and 36 %, depending on the gluten content) and medium starch content(approx. 20 %). Due to the good rumen stability of the starch and protein, it is excellently suited for supplementing feed mixtures for cows and beef cattle. In addition, corn gluten feed has good nutrient digestibility in the small intestine and is therefore also used in feed for monogastrics(pigs, poultry).
