Soy protein concentrate
Soy protein concentrate is a by-product of the extraction of soybean oil from the soybean for human nutrition. The soybean oil is obtained from the hulled bean by extraction. What remains is a protein-rich hull-free soybean extraction meal with approx. 50 % crude protein. Oligo- and polysaccharides (carbohydrate fractions) are dissolved out by further extraction steps, e.g. with acidified water. The result is a soy protein concentrate with approx. 65 % crude protein. The product is characterised by a very high protein digestibility (>90 %). It is particularly suitable for feeding young mammals (e.g. piglets) and young rearing calves because, in addition to its high digestibility, it has a very low content of so-called antinutritional factors such as trypsin inhibitors and antigenic ingredients such as glycinin and beta-conglycinin.
