Sugar
The sugar content of a feed includes glucose, fructose, sucrose, maltose and soluble oligosaccharides. If dairy products or pure lactose are used in a compoundfeed (e.g. rearing feed for young piglets), this "lactose" also counts as a sugar, but must be determined separately for analytical purposes. Sugar is available to the animal as a source of energy. Cereals contain little sugar. By-products from sugar production for human nutrition such as sugar beet mol asses and molasses pulp are very rich in sugar.
